Aside from being a journalist, I hail from the Chicago school of the throaty, growly jazz trombone.
My career as a starving musician began quite young when I joined the Chicago Youth Jazz Ensemble, the baby version of the acclaimed Chicago Jazz Ensemble. After stints around that city, I entered the music scene in Washington, DC, where I performed at such venues as Blues Alley, 9:30 Club and HR-57.
I also play some piano.
